Excel Found Unreadable Content Error Solution

Excel Found Unreadable Content Error Solution
I have shocked today, while i have seen the on my screen while opening my excel document saying "excel found unreadable content do you want to recover the contents", i was using Microsoft excel 2003 (This solution also works with excel 2007).

Error Description Excel Found Unreadable Content:

Excel found unreadable content in (filename.xls). Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook ? If you trust the source of this workbook, click yes.

I have Pressed Yes button and excel has generated this error:

1) Errors were detected in “filename.xls or xlsx”, ’but Microsoft office excel was able to open the file by making the repairs listed below, save the file to make these repairs permanent.

2) Damage to the file was so extensive that repairs were not possible. Excel attempted to recover your formulas and values, but some data may have been lost or corrupted.

After getting this error when i have click on ok, my whole file formatting was gone, all my data was lost, my 5 MB file is showing me 405 KB data.

After that i have searched this issue in google and find various answers from so many sites and blogs, but then i have tried one thing from my own and that one solution worked for me.

Solutions for Excel Found Unreadable Content Error:

1) Right Click on your File and Click on Properties.
2) Make Read Only Check box Clear.
3) Click on Apply and OK.

remove read only from excel file properties

Done! now try to open the file, it will open successfully without giving any error.
